Sri Lanka now has a second underwater museum, this time on the East Coast of Sri Lanka, at Sandy Bay beach in Trincomalee.
Opened by the Former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Admiral Piyal De Silva, this Underwater Museum provides incomparable diving experiences in picturesque area near Sandy Bay, Trincomalee Bay, Sri Lanka.
There is also a marine life sanctuary on Sri lanka’s South coast near Galle.
This underwater museum is open for both the leisure traveler and marine conservationist. At various depths of around 16m and spread over more than 1,000 square metres and providing unique diving experiences.
There are a host of underwater features including sculptures made of eco-friendly material detailing the historical background of diving in Sri Lanka.
Measures are made to encourage coral colonies native to the Trinco Bay area. These corals attract young fish who will populate and make their new home here benefiting the local tourism and fisheries industries, providing attractions to tourists and providing local lankan jobs.
The Sri Lanka Navy, a respected long-term partner of the project and including support from Tokyo Cement Group, the two partners collaborate in replanting coral being involved in deploying Reef Balls made using recycled waste concrete along the coastal belt in Galle, Trincomalee, Pasikudah, Kayankerni, Dutch Bay and Jaffna.
Other partners who are supporting the project include the Blue Resources Trust (BRT), Sri Lanka Navy and the Foundation of Goodness, aalso local dive companies.
Coral Reef Conservation is essential for ocean sustainability and these hybrid initiatives include the Mangroves Reforestation Program where the Sri Lanka Navy and partners replant mangrove saplings along the Eastern coastline of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is demonstrating commitment to social responsibility and tourism projects that breathes new life and successfully integrates social welfare and environmental conservation into missions that have been proven to enrich the people of Sri Lanka and the environment.

Blue Deep Diving Centre is located on Sri Lanka`s tranquil west coast in Hikkaduwa, a typically small lankan fishing village with gorgeous sand beaches, where coral reef protect the small bay from the surfing waves. Fortunately, the best dive sites of Indian Ocean are on our front doorstep. It is our ambition to make your SCUBA diving holiday as special, enjoyable and as safe as possible, therefore we prefer to dive in small groups (maximum 4 divers per Dive Master or Diving Instructor). This is all done for a very reasonable price. Our dive catamaran has a capacity of 15 people but we only allow a maximum 8 divers on-board to allow greater comfort and safety. The boat has a large dive platform for easy entry and exit from the water.
